October 2026 Meeting — Competition Winners

What a wonderful evening at the October main meeting! The competition table was a delight, with members bringing along some truly impressive plants. Here is a summary of the night's winners.

First Division & Orchid of the Night — Ludisia discolor

The standout plant of the evening was this exquisite Ludisia discolor, which claimed both First Division and the coveted Orchid of the Night title. Jewel orchids are always crowd-pleasers, and this specimen was no exception — its velvety dark foliage threaded with shimmering veins drew admiring looks from members all night. A well-deserved double honour.

Open Division — Paph. (Kolosan × lowii)

The Open Division was taken out by this striking Paphiopedilum hybrid, a cross between Kolosan and lowii. Paphs are perennial favourites on the competition table, and this one showed excellent form and presentation. Congratulations to the grower on a superb result.

Second Division — Z. Jumping Jack

Second Division went to Zygopetalum Jumping Jack, a reliable and rewarding grower that never fails to impress when it hits its stride. The rich purple and white blooms were beautifully presented and clearly caught the judges' eye.

Seedling of the Night — Cym. [Devon Shell × (Icho Tower × Kelly Winter)]

Rounding out the evening's awards was this promising Cymbidium seedling, a cross of Devon Shell with the Icho Tower × Kelly Winter combination. Seedling of the Night is always an exciting category — it is wonderful to see members growing on their own crosses and hybrids. This one looks to have a bright future.

Congratulations to all four winners, and thank you to everyone who brought plants along to the table. The competition is only as good as the entries, and October's table was a credit to the club.

We look forward to seeing you at the November meeting. Check the club calendar for details on the next event.
